What does error code B2448 mean?
Error code B2448 indicates a severe internal fault or a complete communication failure in the airbag control unit (SRS ECU), often associated with part number B2448. This error points to a deep-seated electronic malfunction, stored crash data, or a hardware defect that requires professional repair of the unit.
Technically speaking, B2448 means that the central control unit of the safety system is no longer functional. The control unit can no longer process signals from the sensors or send commands to the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. This is not a simple sensor error but rather a problem at the core of the component.
Due to this internal fault condition, the control unit locks itself and blocks all communication over the CAN bus. For this reason, reading out the detailed fault memory is often impossible, making diagnosis more challenging.
How do you recognize error B2448?
Typical symptoms of error B2448 include a continuously illuminated airbag warning light and the inability to communicate with the control unit using diagnostic tools. The unit is essentially “dead” and cannot be read, and internal errors or ground shorts cannot be cleared.

What causes B2448?
The main cause of error code B2448 is an internal failure of the control unit, often triggered by stored crash data following an accident—even without airbag deployment. Other causes include electronic malfunctions, water damage, or secondary faults caused by vibrations that harm internal components.
Stored crash data is a very common culprit. Even minor accidents, such as rear‑end collisions where no airbags deploy, can leave crash information permanently lodged in the control unit’s memory, leading to device lockout.

Water damage is another well‑known cause, especially since the control unit in some models is installed in exposed locations.
B2448 frequently occurs in conjunction with, or as a consequence of, other error codes, including B1548 (CAN bus communication failure), B240 (internal functional malfunction), or B1605 (control module error, e.g., ground short), which point to similar systemic issues within the safety system.
