What does error code B37847 mean?
Error code B37847 indicates a specific fault in the airbag control unit that compromises the functionality of the entire restraint system. Typically, this code points to internal malfunctions, stored crash data, or issues with the power supply. In this state, the control unit can no longer correctly deploy the airbags in the event of a collision.
The airbag control unit is the central control element for all passive safety systems. It collects and processes data from various crash and acceleration sensors in the vehicle and decides within milliseconds whether and which airbags or seatbelt pretensioners need to be activated.
If error B37847 occurs, it means an internal self-diagnosis has detected a serious malfunction. For safety reasons, the system shuts down to prevent false activations and illuminates the airbag warning light to alert the driver.
How do you recognize error B37847?
The primary and unmistakable symptom of error code B37847 is the permanently illuminated airbag warning light on the instrument panel. The vehicle reports a fault in the restraint system. As a result, the entire airbag system is deactivated and offers no protection in the event of a crash. Communication with the control unit via diagnostic tools may also be disrupted.

Other triggers include hardware defects caused by water damage or voltage fluctuations, as well as peripheral issues such as faulty connectors under the seats or a damaged coil spring on the steering wheel.
Following a traffic accident, so‑called crash data are saved in the control unit’s memory. These permanently block the device’s functionality and can only be erased with specialized equipment. Even a door slam that is too forceful can be mistakenly interpreted by the system as a crash event.
Internal hardware defects are also a common source of errors. Penetrating moisture can lead to corrosion and short circuits on the circuit board. Especially at low temperatures, certain manufacturers’ components may fail and trigger internal faults.
Error B37847 can also arise from problems with connected components. Poor connector contacts—particularly at the seatbelt pretensioners beneath the front seats—are frequently stressed by seat adjustments, leading to contact issues. A defective coil spring that establishes the electrical connection to the driver’s airbag is another typical wear‑related cause.
