What does error code C0183 mean?
Error code C0183 indicates an internal electronic fault in the airbag control unit. This defect is usually caused by crash data stored after an accident or by a hardware failure on the control unit’s circuit board. As a result, the control unit can no longer guarantee its safety functions, leading to the airbag warning light remaining constantly illuminated.
Technically speaking, C0183 points to a malfunction in the internal electronics. This may mean that critical components, such as memory chips storing operating software and vehicle data, are no longer functioning correctly.
Often, the cause is the permanent storage of crash data. After an airbag deployment, the control unit is internally locked to prevent unintended re‑deployment. This state is interpreted as “consumed” and triggers error code C0183.
