Error code DF072 indicates an open circuit in the front airbag system, specifically a physical break in the electrical connection. The airbag control unit can no longer properly monitor the ignition circuit of the driver’s or passenger’s airbag, disabling the protective function in the event of a crash.

This error code points to a tangible hardware issue, not a software fault. The control unit performs a self-test at every system start-up and measures the resistance of the airbag ignition circuits. If an infinitely high resistance is detected—equivalent to an open circuit—the system stores error DF072 and activates the airbag warning light.
