The error code DF252 indicates a specific fault in the electronic system of the airbag control unit, usually pointing to issues with wiring or connected sensors. It frequently occurs in models such as the Renault Clio RS and signals an open circuit or short circuit in the electrical wiring, which can disable the safety systems.
Technically speaking, this manufacturer-specific error code points to an anomaly in a particular circuit of the restraint system. The control unit continuously monitors the electrical resistance of components like airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and sensors. If a measured value deviates from the expected range, error DF252 is logged, and the airbag warning light illuminates.
The cause is typically not an internal defect of the control unit itself, but rather a problem in the peripheral components. The system can no longer guarantee that the affected airbag or seatbelt pretensioner will deploy correctly in the event of a crash, and it may partially or completely deactivate for safety reasons.

What causes error code DF252?
The main cause of error code DF252 is physical damage to the airbag system’s wiring. Cable breaks, corroded connectors, or loose connections—especially under the front seats due to seat adjustments—are common culprits. Aging insulation on the cables can also contribute.
A frequent source of problems lies in the cables and connectors beneath the driver’s and passenger’s seats, which lead to the side airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. Continuous movement during seat adjustments can overstress the cables, causing them to break, or loosen the contacts in the connectors.
Moisture ingress—such as from a leaking door seal or spilled liquids—can lead to corrosion at the connectors or directly on the control unit. This creates transition resistances or short circuits that the control unit registers as faults.
Mechanical damage to the wiring harness elsewhere in the vehicle, caused by improper repairs or aging, is another potential cause. Therefore, troubleshooting should focus on the entire electrical circuit between the control unit and the affected component.
