Error code FC 55 signifies a critical internal fault within the airbag control unit itself. This means that one or more hardware components inside the device have failed, compromising the entire functionality of the safety system and requiring immediate repair to restore occupant protection.

The airbag control unit is the central control module of the restraint system. It processes signals from crash sensors, calculates the optimal ignition timing for airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, and ensures power supply via an internal ignition capacitor—even if the vehicle battery fails.

Error FC 55 is triggered when the system’s continuous self-diagnosis detects an irreparable internal fault. In this state, the control unit can no longer perform its core functions, which could result in complete failure of the airbag system in the event of a crash.
