What does error code P1633 mean?
Error code P1633 indicates an internal fault or a serious malfunction within the airbag control unit itself. During its continuous self-diagnosis, the unit has detected a problem in its hardware or internal data processing, preventing the proper functioning of the entire airbag system.
The airbag control unit is the central control module of the occupant protection system. It processes signals from acceleration and crash sensors, supplies the necessary power to the airbag and seatbelt pretensioner circuits, and continuously performs self-tests to ensure operational readiness.
If error P1633 occurs, it means there is an internal defect that calls into question the reliable deployment of the airbags in the event of a crash. For safety reasons, the system is deactivated, and the airbag warning light on the instrument panel remains illuminated.
How can you recognize error P1633?
The most obvious symptom of error code P1633 is the permanently lit airbag warning light on the dashboard. It does not turn off after starting the vehicle, indicating an active, safety‑relevant fault in the restraint system. In this condition, the airbag system is inoperative.

In some cases, stored crash data retained in the control unit’s memory after an accident can lock the device and trigger error code P1633. The control unit becomes disabled and must be professionally reset.
