What does error code U0100 mean?

Error code U0100 indicates a complete loss of communication between the airbag control unit and the engine control module (ECM/PCM). This generic OBD2 fault points to an issue in the CAN bus network, preventing the exchange of critical data. As a result, the airbag system can no longer perform its intended function, since it relies on signals from the engine control module.

Technically speaking, U0100 is a network error. The CAN bus system (Controller Area Network) serves as the vehicle’s central data highway.
