Error code U0103 is a defined communication fault that indicates an interruption in the data connection between the airbag control unit and other central vehicle systems. The control unit cannot receive or transmit necessary data over the CAN bus, thereby disabling the entire safety chain of the airbag system.

Technically speaking, this error means that the airbag module is isolated from the vehicle’s internal data network, known as the CAN bus. Without this connection, it cannot process safety‑related information, such as data from crash sensors or other control units.

As a result of this communication failure, the system enters a safe state. The airbag warning light illuminates to alert the driver that the airbags’ protective function is no longer guaranteed.
