What does the airbag control unit 3SR741 do?

The airbag control unit 3SR741 controls the restraint system (SRS) of Mitsubishi. It receives signals from the sensors, determines in a crash which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered, and monitors the system continuously. It reports faults via the airbag warning light.

In normal operation the unit checks the components of the system and stores deviations in the fault memory. They remain there until a diagnostic tool reads them out.

After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.

Why does the control unit 3SR741 fail?

Most often the cause is crash data stored after an accident, even if no airbag has deployed. Also involved are aged electronic components, cold solder joints, moisture and corrosion on plug connections, and voltage spikes.
