Airbag control unit with part number 77960-SZW-U414-M3

What does the airbag control unit 77960-SZW-U414-M3 do?

The airbag control unit 77960-SZW-U414-M3 controls the restraint system for Honda. The crash sensors supply it with measurements, and in an accident it decides within milliseconds on airbags and seatbelt pretensioners.

The control unit monitors the system constantly and reports faults via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster.

After a crash, it stores crash data and locks itself. Only the repair lifts this lock.

Why does the control unit 77960-SZW-U414-M3 fail?

The most common cause is crash data from an accident, which stays stored even without a triggered airbag. A normal diagnostic tool cannot remove it, but Airbag24 erases it during the repair. Other causes to consider are aged electronics, cold solder joints, moisture and corrosion at plug connections, and voltage spikes.

Voltage spikes arise, for example, when the battery is weak or when jump-starting is connected.

The cause cannot be determined remotely; it only shows up on the unit itself.

How can you tell that the 77960-SZW-U414-M3 is defective?

The airbag warning light in the instrument cluster stays on permanently or intermittently as soon as a fault is present. An error message in the instrument cluster accompanies it, the diagnostic tool cannot find the control unit, and the fault memory cannot be cleared.

As long as these signs are present, airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may not trigger in an emergency.
