Airbag control unit with part number 8200412042

What does the airbag control unit 8200412042 do?

The airbag control unit 8200412042 is the central control of the restraint system (SRS) on Renault. It processes the crash sensor data and determines within milliseconds in an accident which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered.

During continuous operation it checks the components and shows faults via the airbag warning light.

After an accident it creates crash data and locks itself.

Why does the control unit 8200412042 fail?

The most common cause on the 8200412042 is crash data stored after an accident, without any airbag having triggered. In addition there are aged components, cold solder joints, moisture and corrosion on the connectors, as well as voltage spikes.

Crash data cannot be deleted with a standard diagnostic tool. Airbag24 removes it during the repair.

Electronic components age, solder joints can turn cold, and moisture attacks plug connections. Voltage spikes occur with a weak battery or when jump-starting.

How can you tell that the 8200412042 is defective?

An airbag warning light that stays on permanently or intermittently is one of the signs on the 8200412042. Also among them are an error message in the instrument cluster, a lack of connection to the diagnostic tool, and a fault memory that cannot be cleared.

In an emergency, airbags and seatbelt pretensioners may then fail to trigger.

The warning light in the instrument cluster is therefore a warning signal that you must not overlook.
