What does the airbag control unit 89170-0K020 do?

The airbag control unit 89170-0K020 is the central control unit of the SRS restraint system of Toyota. It evaluates the signals from the crash sensors, determines within milliseconds in a crash which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners trigger, and monitors the system without a break.

It detects faults and reports them via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster. Such a signal is necessary so that you notice a failure.

After a crash, the unit stores crash data and locks itself.
