What does the airbag control unit 89170-33C50 do?

The airbag control unit 89170-33C50 is the central control unit of the SRS restraint system of Lexus. It processes the crash sensor signals, decides in an accident within milliseconds on airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, and monitors the entire system.

It reports detected faults via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster. It also writes deviations to the fault memory, from which a workshop reads them out later.

After an accident it stores crash data and then locks itself.
