What does the airbag control unit 9148338 do?

The 9148338 is an airbag control unit and the central control unit of the SRS restraint system for Volvo. It processes the readings from the crash sensors and, in an accident, decides within milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered.

While the vehicle is being driven, the unit monitors the system continuously. It detects faults, stores them and reports them via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster.
