What does the airbag control unit 98221CC011 do?

As the central control unit of the restraint system (SRS) for Subaru, the airbag control unit 98221CC011 evaluates the signals from the crash sensors. In an accident it decides within milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered, and it monitors the entire system continuously.

Faults are indicated via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster. After an accident the unit stores crash data and locks itself.

Because airbags and seatbelt pretensioners must react without delay in an emergency, the electronics are especially important. The control unit monitors all building blocks of the system for this purpose.
