The airbag control unit with part number BRE7-57K30A is the central control module of the occupant safety system (SRS) in Mazda 3 models of the BM and BN generations. It processes signals from crash sensors and determines whether and which restraint systems, such as airbags and seatbelt pretensioners, need to be deployed in the event of a collision.
As the heart of the safety system, this control unit is responsible for monitoring all connected components. It continuously checks the functionality of ignition circuits, sensors, and internal electronics. How do you recognize a defective BRE7-57K30A control unit?
The primary symptom is a permanently illuminated airbag warning light (SRS lamp) on the instrument cluster. Often, the control unit cannot be accessed using a diagnostic tool, or specific fault codes such as B0010 or B0020 appear that cannot be cleared, despite intact external components.
A clear indication is when the SRS lamp fails to turn off after a crash event. The control unit is then locked by the stored crash data and must be professionally reset.
In the workshop, a defect often manifests as a lack of communication: the diagnostic tool cannot establish a connection with the airbag control unit, making fault diagnosis or memory clearing impossible. This points to a severe internal electronic failure.
Stored fault codes indicating internal circuitry errors in the igniters (e.g., B0010 for the driver’s side, B0020 for the passenger’s side) are also strong evidence of a defect within the control unit itself, provided that wiring and airbag modules have already been inspected.
