What does the airbag control unit GBEF-57K30F do?

The GBEF-57K30F is the airbag control unit, in other words the central electronics that control the restraint system (SRS) in Mazda. It receives the messages from the impact sensors and decides in a crash within milliseconds on the triggering of airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. After an accident it stores crash data and locks itself.

The light checks itself when the ignition is switched on. If it does not go out afterwards, there is a finding that should be checked.
