What does the airbag control unit MR158433 do?

The airbag control unit MR158433 is the central control unit of the restraint system (SRS) for Mitsubishi. It evaluates the crash sensors and, in an accident, decides within milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered.

The unit monitors the system continuously and reports faults via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster. The number Bosch 0285001127 is also printed on the housing.

After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.

Why does the control unit MR158433 fail?
