What is a Leapmotor C10 airbag control unit?

The airbag control unit is the central control unit of the restraint system (SRS) in the Leapmotor C10. It evaluates the signals from the crash sensors and, in an accident, decides within milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners deploy. After an accident it stores crash data and locks itself.

It is installed in the Leapmotor C10 (since 2024). While driving it stays unobtrusively in the background, but constantly monitors the sensors, squib circuits and wiring of the system.

If it detects a fault, it indicates this via the airbag warning light. This is the only feedback you receive in everyday use.

Why is the Leapmotor C10 airbag control unit defective?

The airbag warning light is usually the first thing you notice, and the most common cause behind it is crash data stored after an accident, even if no airbag deployed. Other triggers are aged components, cold solder joints, moisture and corrosion on connectors, or voltage spikes, for example from a weak battery or jump-starting.

What you typically notice on the vehicle is the following: the warning light in the instrument cluster stays on permanently, the fault memory reports again immediately after being cleared, or the diagnostic tool cannot connect to the airbag system at all.

If there has been an accident, the lock caused by stored crash data is a likely cause. An ordinary diagnostic tool cannot remove it, even if the vehicle has long since been repaired.

Without an accident, the symptoms point more towards the electronics themselves. Components fatigue, solder joints develop fine cracks over the years, moisture attacks contacts, and voltage spikes in the vehicle electrical system wear down the circuit.
