BYD Atto 3 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I pay attention to with BYD Atto 3 airbag control units?

The airbag control unit of the BYD Atto 3 evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire system. If it detects a fault, it reports it via the airbag warning light. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.

The control unit is a safety-relevant part of the vehicle. If it is defective, the entire airbag system can fail. A lit airbag warning light should be checked promptly. Work on the airbag system should therefore be left to a specialist workshop.

Airbag24 offers BYD Atto 3 airbag control unit repair through the mail-in procedure. Your own control unit is repaired. Whether a specific unit can be repaired only becomes clear after testing in our workshop.

Which BYD Atto 3 generations are there?

The BYD Atto 3 has so far been built in two series: the first generation and the facelift. The first generation was built from 2022 to 2025, and the facelift has been built since 2026. For assignment, the series of your vehicle is what counts.

The first generation reached Europe in 2022 and was built until 2025. The facelift is the revised version and has been built since 2026.

The series at a glance:

  • 1. Generation (2022–2025) – first series, with the airbag control unit of this build period
  • 1. Generation Facelift (since 2026) – revised series whose control unit should be checked separately

How do I identify my BYD Atto 3 airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. You should also know the model year and equipment of your vehicle. With these details, the correct unit can be assigned safely.

The model year is listed in the vehicle registration document. The vehicle identification number (VIN) is in the same papers and on the vehicle. Compare these details with the part number before you send in a unit.

The following part number is stored for this model in our shop. The list does not claim to be complete.

  • SC2EM3658100A

The following fault codes are given as examples for this model. A single code alone does not prove a defect; it is a starting point for the check.

  • B1600 – Driver front airbag not connected
  • B1694 – Supply voltage too low
  • B17A200 – Crash recording locked

Which airbag equipment does the BYD Atto 3 have?

The version of the BYD Atto 3 tested in the European NCAP crash test in 2022 had seven airbags on board. These include front airbags, side airbags, head airbags and a centre airbag between the front seats. Which equipment your vehicle has depends on the trim level and model year.

Specifically, there were two front airbags for driver and front passenger, two side airbags in the chest area and two head airbags in curtain form. The centre airbag protects the front-seat occupants in a side impact. The test information does not list a knee airbag.

For the facelift from 2026, the equipment of the individual vehicle applies. The test information refers to the model from 2022.

The route to repair at Airbag24 looks like this:

  • Have the fault memory read out, ideally at a specialist workshop.
  • Disconnect the battery and remove the airbag control unit, likewise through the specialist workshop.
  • Create a repair order online.
  • Send in the control unit.
  • Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: checking, repairing, testing.

The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — no coding or programming is necessary.
