BYD Seal U airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I pay attention to with BYD Seal U airbag control units?

The airbag control unit of the BYD Seal U evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and seat belt pretensioners, and monitors the entire airbag system. It reports faults via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster. Airbag24 repairs the control unit from your own vehicle that you send in.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. In this case, you should not ignore the airbag warning light.

The airbag system is safety-relevant. Work on the control unit should therefore be carried out only by specialist workshops.

Which BYD Seal U generations are there?

The BYD Seal U is built in the 1st generation, which has been in production since 2024. Production is still ongoing.

  • 1st generation (since 2024) – model series with ongoing production

Whether and when another generation appears is not decisive for the repair. What matters is which control unit is installed in your vehicle.

How do I identify my BYD Seal U airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Also check the model year and equipment of your vehicle, as these determine which control unit is fitted.

Note the part number in full before you send the unit in. It helps us assign the correct version to your repair order.

The fault memory sometimes shows codes such as B1600 (driver front airbag not connected), B1694 (supply voltage too low) or B17A800 (CAN bus interrupted). However, a single code on its own does not prove a defect in the control unit.

What airbag equipment does the BYD Seal U have?

According to the safety equipment listed in the crash test assessment of the BYD Seal U, front, side head, side chest and side pelvis airbags for driver and front passenger are standard. Side head airbags in the rear and a centre airbag at the front are also included.

The equipment list does not include knee airbags. Which airbags are actually fitted depends on trim level and model year; the vehicle documents and the manufacturer's equipment list provide information on this.

In a crash, the control unit coordinates the deployment of the airbags and is therefore the central unit of this protection system. A defective control unit can impair the function of the entire system.

This is how your control unit reaches us for repair: first have the fault memory read out. The battery is then disconnected and the control unit removed, preferably by a specialist workshop. Then create a repair order online and send the unit to Airbag24, well packed. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days (checking, repairing, testing). The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation: no coding or programming is required.
