The development of the airbag system in the Chrysler 300M reflects the technological advances of the late 1990s and early 2000s. While the early models were primarily equipped with front airbags, optional side airbags were introduced starting with the 2001 model year. The newer Chrysler 300 models (from 2005 onwards) feature significantly more modern and comprehensive airbag systems, which is also reflected in the respective airbag control units.

This model was based on a new platform and offered extensively modernized safety features and airbag systems that were significantly different from those of the 300M.
Chrysler 300M airbag control units can be uniquely identified by their specific part number, model year, and vehicle identification number (VIN). Each generation, and even certain model years within the first generation, use specific control unit variants for optimal compatibility and reliability.
The part number is the most important identifier and is located directly on the control unit. It is crucial to match this number correctly, as even small differences in the number can indicate a different software version or hardware configuration that is incompatible.
Additionally, the exact year of manufacture of the vehicle and the complete vehicle identification number (VIN) are helpful. This information makes it possible to identify the exact equipment and thus the appropriate airbag control unit, especially for transitional models or those with optional airbag systems.
The airbag configuration of the Chrysler 300M varies depending on the model year and trim level. While early models use basic airbag systems, newer generations or later models of the first generation feature enhanced safety packages with additional airbag modules and more complex control units.
