Xpeng P7 airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I pay attention to with Xpeng P7 airbag control units?

The airbag control unit of the Xpeng P7 evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and, in an accident, the belt tensioners, and monitors the entire airbag system. It reports faults via the airbag warning light on the dashboard. After an accident, it stores crash data and locks itself.

In an emergency, the control unit decides whether the airbags and belt tensioners are triggered. To do this, it continuously checks the sensors and the squib circuits, so that the system is always ready for use. A defective control unit can impair the function of the entire airbag system.

The airbag system is safety-critical. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit for your Xpeng P7 that you send to us: we erase the crash data, check the unit and repair it in our workshop in Berlin. Whether a unit can be repaired only becomes clear after inspection. Do not work on the airbag system yourself; leave the removal to a specialist workshop.

Which Xpeng P7 generations are there?

For the Xpeng P7 we list one series, code P7, with a production period of 2021 to 2025. The series is an electric liftback sedan.

Within a series, control units can differ depending on model year and equipment. The part number is therefore decisive.

  • P7 (2021–2025) – the only series of the Xpeng P7.

How do I identify my Xpeng P7 airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Before you send the unit in, note the model year and equipment of your Xpeng P7.

A control unit can be clearly identified by its part number, model year and equipment. The vehicle identification number (VIN) also helps to establish the version of your vehicle.

The fault memory stores codes that point to a fault. Examples for the Xpeng P7 are:

  • U0151: communication with the airbag control unit lost
  • B16201B: driver airbag squib circuit, front: resistance too high
  • B0001: driver airbag stage 1: squib circuit control disturbed
  • B0002: driver airbag stage 2: squib circuit control disturbed

A fault code on its own does not prove that the control unit is defective. Only an inspection in the workshop shows whether the control unit itself or the wiring in the vehicle is the cause.

Which airbag equipment does the Xpeng P7 have?

According to the NCAP test report for the Xpeng P7, front, side, head and centre airbags are standard equipment. The report does not list a knee airbag as equipment.

Front airbags protect driver and front passenger. Side airbags are fitted for driver and front passenger, head airbags as side curtains cover both rows of seats, and the centre airbag separates the occupants in the front seats. These details refer to the model in the test report.

Which airbags are fitted in your vehicle is shown in the vehicle documentation or in the manufacturer's data sheet for your version. The control unit operates all of these airbags together; a fault therefore affects the entire system.

The route to repair: a specialist workshop reads out the fault memory, disconnects the battery and removes the control unit. You then create a repair order online and send the unit to us. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days for inspection, repair and testing.

The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation — coding or programming is not necessary.
