Error code U1123 is a specific CAN bus error that appears in diagnostic logs as “received error value on the data bus” or “received error message.” It indicates that the airbag control unit (J234) has received an erroneous, implausible, or completely missing message from another control unit within the vehicle’s network.
Technically speaking, this signifies a disruption in digital communication. The airbag control unit is connected via the CAN bus (Controller Area Network) to central components such as the engine control unit, the instrument cluster, or the gateway. The specific code U1123 00 suggests that an expected data message either arrived corrupted or not at all at the airbag module.
This communication failure can occur sporadically or persistently and causes the airbag system to switch to a safe mode to prevent malfunctions. Therefore, precise diagnosis of the bus communication is crucial to pinpoint the actual source of the fault.
What symptoms indicate error U1123?
The most obvious sign of error U1123 is the illumination of the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster.
