What does the airbag control unit 8635A087 do?

The airbag control unit 8635A087 controls the restraint system (SRS) at Mitsubishi. In an accident it evaluates the crash sensors and decides within milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners fire. It also monitors the entire system and reports faults via the airbag warning light.

The monitoring runs in the background, including during normal driving. Connections, sensors and supply voltage are part of it, and every detected fault ends up in the fault memory.
