What does the airbag control unit 95910-G6540 do?

The central control unit of the restraint system of Kia is the airbag control unit 95910-G6540. It processes the readings from the crash sensors and, in a crash, decides within a few milliseconds which airbags and seatbelt pretensioners are triggered.

It also monitors the entire system continuously. If it detects a fault, it shows this via the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster.

The unit stores crash data after an accident, after which it is blocked.

Why does the control unit 95910-G6540 fail?

Among the causes is crash data that remains in the unit after an accident, even if no airbag has triggered; a normal diagnostic tool does not erase it.
