What should I know about Chevrolet Metro airbag control units?
The airbag control unit in the Chevrolet Metro reads the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and monitors the entire system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light on the dashboard comes on.
In a crash, the control unit has to decide within a very short time whether and which restraint systems are triggered. Where fitted in the vehicle, it also controls the belt tensioners.
After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Airbag24 repairs the customer's own control unit that is sent in, at its workshop in Berlin. Whether a particular unit can be repaired is determined by the inspection at the workshop.
Which Chevrolet Metro generations are there?
The Chevrolet Metro is recorded in our shop as one generation: the 1st generation, built from 1998 to 2001.
This model range was built for the North American market and sold there under the Chevrolet name in the model years 1998 to 2001. The model year and equipment of your own vehicle are decisive for the assignment.

How do I identify my Chevrolet Metro airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the airbag control unit determines the exact version. The model year and equipment of the vehicle also matter.
The label is usually found on the housing of the control unit. If the number cannot be read, the first registration date in the vehicle registration document gives a first indication of the model year.
A fault code in the fault memory is a hint, not proof of a defect. Examples from verified sources:
- B1000: internal performance fault in the airbag control unit (SDM)
- B0012: driver steering wheel airbag, ignition circuit stage 1 faulty
- B0052: deployment commanded, restraint systems fired, crash record stored
What airbag equipment does the Chevrolet Metro have?
The Chevrolet Metro was equipped with front airbags for driver and front passenger. Which further airbags were fitted depends on model year and equipment.
Side, head or knee airbags are not clearly documented for this model range, so we do not give a number here. What matters is the equipment of your own vehicle, which you can check in the vehicle documents or the owner's manual.
Airbag systems are safety-relevant. Work on the airbag system belongs in the hands of a specialist workshop. Please do not work on it yourself.
The route to repair: have the fault memory read out. Then have the battery disconnected and the control unit removed in a specialist workshop. Next, create a repair order online and send the unit to us, well packed. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: checking, repairing, testing.
The repaired control unit comes back with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — no coding or programming is required.
