What should you know about Honda ZR-V airbag control units?

In a Honda ZR-V, the airbag control unit is safety-relevant. It evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and reports faults via the airbag warning light. After an accident it stores crash data and locks itself.

If the airbag warning light stays on, the system should be checked promptly. A fault can lie in the control unit itself, but also in sensors, wiring or connectors. Diagnosis should therefore be carried out by a specialist workshop.

How do I identify my Honda ZR-V airbag control unit?

The part number is printed on the label of the control unit. Note it before the unit is removed so you can state it in the repair request. With the part number and model year you will find the matching repair product for your generation in the shop.

Fault codes give hints, but they are no proof of a defect. Examples from our records are B1000 (SRS control unit malfunction), B1001 (SRS control unit memory fault) and 5-1 (collision detected, crash data stored in the airbag control unit). A single code does not prove a defect. Only reading out the codes and testing in the workshop reveal the cause.

What airbag equipment does the Honda ZR-V have?

According to Honda, the ZR-V comes as standard with front airbags, a centre airbag between the front seats and a knee airbag for the front occupants. The total number of airbags is stated differently in the sources, so we do not name a figure.

All airbags are controlled by the airbag control unit, which coordinates their deployment in a crash. Further airbags, such as side or head airbags, depend on the trim level and market. Please check your vehicle's equipment using the vehicle documents or ask your dealer.
