What should I know about Renault Symbioz airbag control units?
With Renault Symbioz airbag control units, the key point is that after an accident the unit stores crash data and locks itself. It evaluates the signals from the crash sensors and determines which airbags and belt tensioners are triggered. Airbag24 repairs your own control unit once it has been sent in.
The Renault Symbioz has been on the market since 2024 and is offered in Europe. In an emergency, the airbag control unit triggers the airbags and belt tensioners and monitors the entire restraint system.
If the system detects a fault, the airbag warning light in the instrument panel lights up. A defective control unit can impair the function of the entire airbag system. Work on the airbag system therefore belongs in the hands of a specialist workshop and not in self-service.
Which Renault Symbioz generations are there?
The Renault Symbioz has so far been built in just one generation, generation I. It has been in production since 2024 and is still being built.
- I (since 2024, still in production) – current generation of the Renault Symbioz
Within this generation, trim levels and drive variants differ, which can also affect the airbag equipment.
How do I identify my Renault Symbioz airbag control unit?
The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your vehicle, it makes it possible to identify the correct unit clearly.
The label is usually located on the housing of the control unit. Note down the part number and have the model year and vehicle identification number (VIN) ready when you create a repair order.
Fault codes offer a first clue, but they are not proof of a defect. Typical codes are DF001 for a fault in the control unit itself, DF035 for a locked fault memory with crash data secured after an accident, and DF003 for an open or short circuit in the firing circuit of the driver's front airbag. A single code does not prove a defect; only reading out and testing the system reveals the cause.
What airbag equipment does the Renault Symbioz have?
As standard, the Renault Symbioz has front airbags, front side airbags and head airbags for the front seats. Depending on the trim level, six airbags are listed. Knee and centre airbags are not fitted according to the test reports reviewed.
The sources disagree on the rear seats: one test report lists head airbags at the back and rules out side airbags there, while an Austrian equipment list shows window airbags at the front and rear. Please check the equipment of your vehicle using the vehicle documents or the manufacturer's configurator.
The route to repair is as follows: have the fault memory read out, disconnect the battery and remove the control unit. Removal and read-out should be carried out by a specialist workshop. Then create a repair order online and send in the unit. Processing usually takes 3–4 working days for checking, repair and testing.
The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use immediately after reinstallation – no coding or programming is necessary.
