Lexus LM airbag control unit repair(1)

What should I know about Lexus LM airbag control units?

The airbag control unit in the Lexus LM evaluates the crash sensors, triggers the airbags and belt tensioners, and monitors the entire airbag system. If it detects a fault, the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on. Airbag24 repairs the control unit you send in.

After an accident, the control unit stores crash data and locks itself. Airbag24 erases this crash data as part of the repair. The repair is carried out by mail-in service: you send the removed control unit to us by parcel, and it is checked and repaired at our workshop in Berlin.

A fault in the airbag system does not always originate in the control unit itself. Whether a specific defect in the control unit can be repaired only becomes clear once the device has been checked. Work on the airbag system should therefore be left to a specialist workshop.

Which Lexus LM generations are there?

The Lexus LM is currently built in the AH40 series, which has been in production since 2023. Equipment and components can differ within the series depending on the model year and market.

  • AH40 (since 2023) – current series, available in Europe since autumn 2023

The AH40 series was launched on the European market in autumn 2023 and is available with four or seven seats. For an exact assignment, the model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) are decisive, not the model name alone.

How do I identify my Lexus LM airbag control unit?

The part number on the label of the control unit determines the exact version. Together with the model year and equipment of your Lexus LM, it is a key reference for the correct assignment.

Before removal, note the part number, the model year and the vehicle identification number (VIN) of your vehicle. These details help with the check and with the repair order, so that the correct unit can be clearly identified.

From verified sources, the following fault codes are known for the Lexus LM, among others: B1000 (fault in the airbag central sensor or control unit), U0151 (communication with the airbag control unit lost) and B1800 (short circuit in the ignition circuit of the driver airbag). A single fault code does not prove a defect in the control unit, however. The cause can also lie in the wiring, the power supply or a connected component.

What airbag equipment does the Lexus LM have?

According to Lexus equipment information, the Lexus LM includes driver and front passenger airbags with two-stage deployment, front side airbags and curtain shield airbags for the head area. Which further airbag modules are fitted depends on the model year and trim level.

The airbags are controlled by the airbag control unit. In a collision it evaluates the sensor data and decides which modules deploy. A defective control unit can impair the function of the entire airbag system and activate the airbag warning light.

The usual route to repair looks like this:

  • Have the fault memory read out so that the fault codes are documented
  • Have the battery disconnected
  • Have the control unit removed
  • Create the repair order online
  • Send the control unit to Airbag24 by parcel

Processing usually takes 3–4 working days: we check the unit, repair it and test it. The repaired control unit returns with all vehicle data and is ready for use as soon as it is refitted — no coding or programming is needed.
